The Youngstown Phantoms announced that defenseman Luke Eibler has committed to Northeastern University and will enroll at the school following his USHL career.
The 6-3, 175-pound native of Pinckney, Michigan is playing in his first USHL season and made his regular season debut during the home opener for the Phantoms on Saturday. Eibler came to Youngstown after competing last season with the Victory Honda AAA midget program in southeastern Michigan.
"Luke got a lot of attention last year," said Phantoms Associate Coach/Director of Player Development Curtis Carr. "He competes, battles, and has that warrior-type mentality that you love in a hockey player. He had a strong [tryout] camp for us in June and played really well at the USHL Fall Classic which had a lot of schools interested after that."
The Northeastern Huskies, members of Hockey East, currently have 12 former USHL players on its roster for the 2009-10 season
